One heck of a Job, Mr. Jobs! Thank you for all the iStuff..

Lessons of Katrina well learned and applied

Preparations were upto worst case mark, outcome was the best case mark at least for NYC. Parts of south Jersey not so lucky but overall not as terrible as it could have been. Irene lost its mojo after dancing on NC. It will soon be time to get back to life.

Checkout lines half an hour long on a Thu late evening..Irene barreling its sights right on NJ, NYC after the Carolinas. Thought I had seen it all with the blizzard (or two) of the century..now earthquake of the century and would it be the hurricane of the century (hope not) within the same week?..hoping for the best and preparing for the worst..

Wonderfully touching rendition and embodiment of one of the greatest Indian poets..

S&P downgraded US Govt Debt.

What happens as a result? Uncertainty and the stock markets tank. Where does all the money fly? In search of risk-free assets. What do they find most safe? US Govt Debt, and they shoot up. Abracadabra. World is round, theorem proved.

Reflecting on what it means to be an American..

..upon completion of 20 years in USA..so much to gain and so much to lose..for immigrants raising American children and for everyone interested there is a great series (available on netflix streaming), http://www.history.com/shows/america-the-story-of-us

..tobacco..slavery..civil war..steam boat..rail road..telegram, the very first internet..carnegie's steel, discovery of oil..ford's assembly line..the great westward migration..california's los angeles aquaduct.. hoover dam..Interestingly some of the metaphors from the 30's parallel the first decade of the new century..will America rise again as it did from the great depression then?

So very last century

..do you remember the last century when we had so much stuff..we used to have stacks of newspapers and books..address books and note pads and calendars and clocks..maps and compasses..big music systems and collections of records..big cameras and picture albums..telephone instruments and voicemail recorders..calculators and big desktop computers..big game boards..big television tubes and video players..guess then at the dawn of the new century we got a genius magic wand that shrunk everything so small we could carry them all at once upholstered to our pockets sort of like the cowboys in the wild wild west used to carry their guns armed and ready to face the world..
